Apply for Grants

Welcome, and thank you for your interest in applying for a mental-health grant through Bridge to Care. Please complete the form below and upload any requested documents; your application will be reviewed, and you will be notified once it has been processed.

Grant applications are now open. Please note: Our first round of grant processing will begin in June 2026. You’re welcome to apply early, but grants will not be awarded before that time.

Who can apply?

Any Vermonter who is currently seeing a therapist listed on our roster of qualified and registered providers may apply for funding. Applicants must be uninsured or underinsured, meaning they do not have active health insurance coverage or are enrolled in a plan with a high deductible that limits access to affordable mental health care.

Individuals are not eligible to apply if they:

  • Are covered by Medicaid or Medicare;
  • Live outside of Vermont;
  • Do not meet the financial need criteria outlined in our application; or
  • Are not able or willing to work with a counselor on our list of qualified and registered providers.

What does the process for applying for and using a grant look like?

Continued access.
If you need ongoing support after your initial grant period, you may reapply during a future funding cycle. We offer three types of grants to meet different needs:

  • Standard Grant – generally covers about six months of counseling.
  • Small Grant – supports approximately three months of counseling or participation in a group counseling offering.
  • Continuance Grant – extends support if your original grant has been used but your counseling goals have not yet been reached.

Check eligibility.
Review our eligibility criteria above to be sure you qualify. You must live in Vermont, meet financial need guidelines, and be working with, or willing to work with, a therapist on our list of registered providers.

Complete the application.
Fill out our secure online form (or request a paper copy). You’ll be asked for basic information about yourself, your therapist, and your insurance status.

Therapist verification.
Your therapist confirms their registration with the Bridge to Care Fund and verifies that you are an active client, or that they can onboard you as a new client.

Review and decision.
Applications are reviewed on a quarterly basis. Funding decisions are made according to financial need, available funds, and equitable access across Vermont communities.

Grant distribution and use.
Once approved, your grant funds will be earmarked for you.

Your therapist will submit a simple claim form to the Fund after each session to receive payment for services rendered. The funds do not go to the client. The Fund will pay your therapist directly until your grant balance is used in full or the grant period ends.

We’re excited to launch our first grant cycle in Spring 2026. Applications may be submitted beginning March 1st and will be reviewed starting at that time. Thank you for your patience as we build this program with care.
